Grant Writing Essentials

UME & USM ASSIGNMENTS

Please note: assignments do not need to be submitted to me each week.

The only documents you have to submit are the documents that correlate with the badge level you want to earn (see UME & USM Badges page for more information). You will turn those in Week 5. If you are not ready to go after a badge and want a participation certificate, nothing needs to be handed in!

Before first live class:

Watch video lessons 1–5 on the Week 1 page and Welcome video on the Welcome page.

WEEK 1

  1. Begin working on Page 1 of the Canned Language Part 1 document (optional).

  2. Watch all videos on the Week 2 page.

  3. Start thinking about your top three funding priorities based on Lessons 8 and 9.

  2. Watch all videos on the Week 3 page.

WEEK 3

  1. Choose an idea for a grant application. Draft a needs statement for that idea, making sure to answer all questions on the needs statement document. Keep under 1000 characters, including spaces. Peer review next week.

  2. Watch all videos on the Week 4 page.

  3. Determine if you want to receive a Participation Certificate, Level 1 Badge, Level 2 Badge, or Level 3 Badge from the course.

  • To receive a Participation Certificate: attend classes and contribute to class discussions—there's nothing to hand in!

  • To receive Level 1, you will need to submit the Canned Language Part 1 document.

  • For a Level 2 Badge, you will need to submit Canned Language Parts 1 and 2.

  • For Level 3 Badge, you will submit proof that you've submitted a real-world grant application.
